Recording Journal: Day 13 – Guitars, Vocals, Keys, Programming

Hey everyone,

Today was a pretty successful day of tracking, with two songs, “American Buffalo” and “Hearts of Cloth” swiftly reaching completion. I started off with vocals for “Hearts of Cloth”, using the Audiotechnica AT2020 Condenser Mic. After that was finished and rough-mixed I moved on to guitars, using the Fender ’72 Telecaster Thinline, miking Trevor’s Marshal JCM 2000 with the Shure SM57. I finished up all of my leads for “Hearts of Cloth”, leaving only Trevor’s leads and Chelsey’s xylophone parts left to go.

I also added some synthesizer bass to “Hearts of Cloth”, playing the bass pads on our Alesis SR18 drum machine direct in to the MBox. Last but not least Chelsey added a vocoder part to the first chorus for some texture, using the Vocoder 101 setting on her Alesis Micron. After that we just worked on some editing. Tomorrow we will continue with a few of Trevor’s guitar parts and some of his vocals as well.

Lastly, we have a show coming up this Tuesday, February 15th at All Asia (334 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, MA) with Andrew Eckels and Cathode Rays. The show starts at 7pm.
